Description Sunrize Sichuan Peppercorns - not related to the pepper family but dried berries of the prickly ash tree. They have a unique mildly peppery flavour.
The Sunrize Fact-ory The rural people of the Sichuan Province in China apply the powder of its seeds on their legs to get rid of leech infestation while crossing a forest in the rainy season. The seed emits a characteristic pungent odor so strong that even the sticky leech cannot hold on.
Usage Popular in Chinese, Tibetan and Bhutani cuisine. Compliments fish, chicken and duck well.
Storage Requirements Store in a cool dry place and once opened keep in an airtight container for no more than 6 months.
On the Label Sichuan pepper isn’t actually a pepper. It is a small berry used predominantly in the spicy Szechuan cuisine of China. Not fiery hot like black pepper, it has a slight lemon taste to it and a kind of dry heat which compliments the hot chillies which are often added to it to make spectacularly hot and flavoursome dishes.
